Federal
Student Loan Counseling and
Master Promissory Note
Below is information you need to complete required
loan counseling for federal student loans. In completing this requirement,
it is important to understand the following information and select the correct
counseling session(s).
Federal Stafford Loans are either
subsidized loans or unsubsidized loans.
Federal Graduate PLUS Loans
Federal Perkins Loans are made directly by
the University, and the maximum award is $4,000 per year. UNC Charlotte
contracts with Campus Partners to handle the billing and repayment of the loan
when the student enters repayment.
Entrance counseling is required for all
students who are receiving a federal loan for the first time at UNC Charlotte.
Even if you had federal loans at other schools, entrance counseling is required
if this is your first federal loan at UNC Charlotte. The University is not
allowed to disburse loan funds to you until this is completed.
Exit counseling is required for all
students who received a federal loan at UNC Charlotte who graduate, withdraw, or
otherwise cease at least half-time enrollment.

The completion of the Master Promissory
(MPN)
is required in order for you to receive the Stafford Loan.
Contact you lender about completing your MPN.
IMPORTANT: New borrowers should link
to entrance loan counseling, and those who are graduating or otherwise leaving
school should link to exit loan counseling. If you have both types of
loans (Stafford AND Perkins), it is necessary to complete BOTH counseling
sessions for EACH loan. If you are not sure of the type of loans you have,
